Patients with histologically proved, wide-spread mctastatic yrostate carcinoma were treated with mithramyein or actinomycin D. All the patients had been previously treated with bilateral orchiectomy nnd/or intensive estrogen therapy. At the time of the chemotherapy, the diseases were in relapse. Among the six patients treated with mithramycin, all of them experienced signifieant reduction of serum acid phosphatase level. The responses were brief in duration, however it was accompanied by a substantial relief of bone pain. The lowering of eleveted serum acid phosphatase value was more pronounced and prolonged when Thiotepa (triethylene thiophosphorarnide) was given in conjunction with daily intravenws drip of mithramycin for one week. Further exploration of this regimen is warranted for the treatment of the patients who have shown relapse following thr standard therapy.
